8 Battery

 

19 October 1944: WLs to be moved to the vicinity of Gun area near St.Anthonis Gun Posn recce.

 

20 October 1944: RHQ, 24 and 25 Btys left for 12 Corps area.

 

22 October 1944: RC and CE Church Parades held. Proposed visit from Arty/R pilots did not materialise.

 

23 October 1944: BC visited RHQ and QM. One signaller rft received. A sub forced to evacuate gun pit though flooding.

 

24 October 1944: OP recce established, Visit from Arty/R pilots in the afternoon. Lt Davy returned from RA 11 Armd Div.

 

26 October 1944: Lt Hondelink manned OP in afternoon. Bty posn inspected by CAGRA and Staff Capt.

 

27 October 1944: Line laid by AGRA to SR Troop. Visit from Lt/Col Wilson.

 

28 October 1944: 08.15hrs SR shoot had to be stopped. SRs unable to pick up shell burst owing to adverse wind conditions. C subs gun taken out of action. Cannibalised on authy of CAGRA and EME to put one gun of 9 Bty in action. Visit from Maj Hewitt. 6 rfts received from 165HAA and 2 from RHQ.

 

29 October 1944: Church parades held. 14.30hrs BC and GPO carried out recce of Gun Position.

 Move cancelled 19.00hrs. Move ordered 21.10hrs. time to pass SP 12.00hrs, 30 Oct 1944.

 

30 October 1944: Battery moved to new position. Lt Davy left as rep to RA 15 (S) Div.

 

31 October 1944:  Lines laid to HAA, RHQ and SR Troop. 155mm Gun returned to 8 Corps Troops Wkshop. Free Dutch reported armed Germans in the area. Search was unsuccesful. WLs moved from vincinity of gun area. Free Dutch report three suspects in WL area, assistance given to apprehend the suspects, who tried to escape one being shot dead by Free Dutchman. Remaining two taken to Free Dutch HQ. All three reported to German SS in civilian clothes. 3 rfts received from RHQ.

 

1 November 1944:  4 men sent to rest camp at Helmond. BC visited 9 Bty. CAGRA inspected Bty posn.
