451 Battery

 

4 November 1944: 0700 - Battery complete left Beernem to march to South Beveland to join Burn Force operating on East side of Walcheren comded by Brig. L.D. Burns  DSO (CRA 52 'L' Div). 1700 - Battery ordered in/S action by A/CRA 52 'L' Div (L/Col CD Scott 801 Ad Regt). A Troop under command I Glas.H. + Battery less one tp under comd 157. A Troop and B Troop in action. B OP whilst being ferried across to Walcheren from the harbour by RE's row aground amids streams and did not reach its position.

 

5 November 1944: 0010 - A Troop under command 7 Camerons (L/Col Lasan?) for adv north in direction of Veere (ordered by HQ RA). Battery less one Troop under command 157 I.B. (Brig Laisell). B Troop in support 5 HLI for attack on Nieuwland and subsequent exploitation in direction of Middelburg. 0001 - Battery in action as for 4th. 0730 - A Troop in action. 0930 - B Troop in action. Battry HQ alongside HQ 191 Field Regt. 0900 - A Troop met C.O. 7 Lans and ordered to support 2 Coy ado (A & D). 1000 - B Troop with B Coy HLI (Major Wenbly Horsta?) in support. 1300 - B Coy 5 HLI captured Nieuwlands B.O.P. in action. 1400 -  B Troop adv into action. BHQ still with 79th Field Regt. 1630 - AOP engaged enemy inf in area ?.

 

6 November 1944: 1000 - A Troop adv into action. 1530 - A Troop shelled jetty, destroyed amn dump 20mm(?) gun on jetty also engaged no more fire was observed from this gun. OP with Battalion.

 

7 November 1944: 0630 - Party crossed Walcheren Canal & joined C Coy (Major Blyth). 1000 - Party with C Coy 7 Lans adv onto Veere & received surrender of German Garrison. 1200 - A OP established Windmill.
